O's breaking out in big way on homestand

BALTIMORE -- Orioles hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh celebrated his 49th birthday on Saturday. Chances are he left the park pretty happy.

The Orioles delivered 15 hits and a season-high seven extra-base hits in their 9-4 victory against the Yankees. It was Baltimore's sixth straight win and got the club back above .500 for the first time since May 3.

"We haven't hit much outside of the last two days," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "We thought it was kind of counterproductive with the heat. Sometimes you can want something too much. Guys are in a little bit of a flow. You've got a lot of different guys contributing."

Nine Orioles picked up a hit on Saturday, with five of those collecting extra-base hits. Steve Pearce had a double, Matt Wieters picked up two doubles and David Lough picked up his first career pinch-hit home run and Baltimore's first pinch-hit homer of the season.

Even with so many contributing, it was Manny Machado and Nolan Reimold who paced the Orioles' offense. Machado finished the night going 3-for-5 and tied a career high with four RBIs, two of which came on a homer.

"I'm feeling good. Seeing the ball well," said Machado, who is hitting .476 in the first five games of the homestand. "We just have to keep rolling, try and keep it simple, not try and do too much and good things will come out of it."

Reimold, who hit just two home runs in 46 games in Triple-A Norfolk this season, has already hit two in four games since being called up on Tuesday. He hit a two-run shot in Saturday's contest and also picked up his first triple since Sept. 27, 2011.

"I thought when he had the home run and the triple he might have a shot at something," Showalter said. "He's in a moment. He's not thinking about this or that. He's just taking every at-bat as it comes."

The Orioles have picked up 31 hits for 20 runs in the past two games and registered 15 or more hits in three consecutive home games against the Yankees for the first time in club history.
