O's careful with Flaherty after return from DL

NEW YORK -- Ryan Flaherty -- who had some groin discomfort during Friday night's loss to the Yankees -- wasn't in the Orioles' starting lineup on Saturday. However, he came off the bench in the seventh inning of Baltimore's 6-2 win over the Yankees as a defensive replacement at second. He didn't see any at-bats.

Flaherty was activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game, and the infielder got the start at second base.

"Ryan has never had a leg injury his whole career … so you build up a little scar tissue there in two weeks," manager Buck Showalter said. "Straightaway [running], he's fine, just felt some tightness when he made some turns -- the very first play of the game, the chopper off Miguel [Gonzalez's] glove.

"I just want to be real cautious with it today. He's available, though. Quick turnaround, but I was pleasantly surprised with how he feels today."
