Orioles clinch tie for AL Wild Card berth

October 2nd, 2016

Thanks to the Tigers' 5-3 loss to the Braves on Saturday evening, the Orioles have clinched a tie for an American League Wild Card berth despite their 7-3 loss to the Yankees on Saturday afternoon.
Detroit's loss assures the Orioles of at least playing in a Wild Card tiebreaker game next week. Tied with the Blue Jays for the top AL Wild Card spot, after Toronto beat Boston, Baltimore could still clinch home-field advantage in the AL Wild Card Game with a win and a loss by the Blue Jays on Sunday. If the O's and Blue Jays finish the regular season tied alone atop the standings, Baltimore would travel to play Toronto in the Wild Card Game at Rogers Centre, based on the Blue Jays winning the season series.
The Orioles close out the regular season against the Yankees in the Bronx, while Toronto will take on the AL East champion Red Sox in 's final game at Fenway Park. Both games are scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET.
Detroit could host Cleveland on Monday to make up a game previously postponed due to rain, if the Tigers still have a mathematical chance at the Wild Card, or if the Indians still have a chance to gain home-field advantage over Boston in the AL Division Series.
The AL Wild Card Game is scheduled for Tuesday and will be broadcast live on TBS.
