Potential Gallardo deal could open OF market to O's

Club appears interested in free agents Fowler, Jackson

BALTIMORE -- If the Orioles do land free-agent starter Yovani Gallardo, with the two sides in serious negotiations on Wednesday, Baltimore may not be done making moves.
The O's, who have tried all winter to add an outfielder to go alongside center fielder Adam Jones, would forfeit their No. 14 overall pick to sign Gallardo. If they lose that, they would perhaps be more inclined to also give up their second pick (No. 29 overall as compensation for losing Wei-Yin Chen), and foray into the top-tier outfield market.
2016 Draft order
Baltimore has had "informal discussions" with outfielder Dexter Fowler, according to ESPN.com, and the O's have also been linked to free agents Pedro Alvarez and Austin Jackson several times this winter. The Orioles are also exploring trade options including Reds right fielder Jay Bruce, according to a FOXSports.com report on Wednesday.

Fowler is considered the best free agent outfielder remaining on the market and is coming off a solid season for the Cubs. The 29-year-old batted .250/.346/.411 with a career-high 17 home runs and 20 stolen bases.
