BALTIMORE -- After more than a month and a half on the disabled list, Darren O'Day (right hamstring strain) seems primed to rejoin the Orioles' bullpen. Manager Buck Showalter said the club expects to either activate him on Sunday or have him pitch one more rehab game before doing so early next week.
O'Day threw a scoreless inning at Double-A Bowie on Friday night and said he felt good. Before Saturday's game, he said he hoped it would be his only rehab appearance.
"My delivery is in a good place," O'Day said. "I was making a lot of good pitches. Everything was moving like it should, so I hope to be back soon, the next couple of days."
The O's could also get Hyun Soo Kim, who's on the DL with a right hamstring strain, back within the week. Showalter wants Kim to complete two rehab games before his return, and he's first eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday. Double-A Bowie announced Kim will rehab there on Sunday and on Monday.
Baltimore could use him back soon after receiving news last night it would be without outfielder Joey Rickard for 4-6 weeks with a high-grade ligament tear in his right thumb.
Rickard, who was in the clubhouse on Saturday, was wearing a brace on his right hand to immobilize his thumb. He said he has to wear it for the next three weeks, but he's looking to get back before the timeframe he was given.
"My goal is to beat whatever they told me by whatever I can," said Rickard, who will stay with the club but not travel during his recovery. "I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that happens."

The Orioles are still without All-Star catcher Matt Wieters (right foot) in the starting lineup. While he's available in emergency situations, Showalter said he doesn't expect him back until Monday.
Caleb Joseph, who is making his fifth straight start behind the plate, would have to start Sunday's day game after Saturday night's contest assuming Wieters isn't ready. Showalter feels Joseph is capable, though.
"He's fresh," Showalter said. "He's as fresh as he's ever going to be. If he could ever do it, it'd be now. … I think Caleb relishes the opportunity to make a contribution to us. He's kind of stepped it up in a time of need."

• Left-hander T.J. McFarland, who has been on the DL since June 30 with left knee inflammation, is getting close to throwing off a mound. He has been throwing 90-120 feet in Sarasota, Fla.
