SARASOTA, Fla. -- The entire Orioles team sported orange LUNGevity T-shirts for Sunday's intrasquad game, a touching tribute on the two-year anniversary of the passing of former PR director Monica Barlow.
"We don't have two of them or we would have worn them this morning [to work out in]," Showalter said of the shirts, which have "In memory of Monica" written on the front. "You'll see them again. It's not just one day."
Barlow, a nonsmoker who was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in September 2009, had been with the Orioles' organization since January 2001. She continued to work after being diagnosed, courageously becoming one of Major League Baseball's biggest advocates for the "Stand Up To Cancer" initiative. But as much as Barlow did in bringing awareness, she was never quite comfortable in the spotlight.

"Oh, she's angry," Showalter said of what Barlow would have thought about Sunday's public gesture. "[She would have said,] 'Really?'
"There are little things you remember, where you were. I know when they told me she had passed, I remember. Every time I come out of there and I see her picture, I think about it. ... Tough. I need to call her mom today. I know [my wife] Angela talked to her."
