Veteran reliever Bell inks Minors deal with O's

KANSAS CITY -- The Orioles announced on Friday night that right-hander Heath Bell has signed a Minor League contract. Pending a physical, Bell will report to Triple-A Norfolk.

Bell, 36, was designated for assignment by the Rays and released two weeks ago with a 7.27 ERA. He is still being paid by the Rays, Diamondbacks and Marlins.

Asked after Friday's 4-0 victory over the Royals about Bell joining the organization, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said: "He has to pass the physical. That's my thoughts on it."
