O's mark holiday with special jerseys, ceremony

May 30th, 2016

BALTIMORE -- When Orioles players arrived back to Camden Yards on Monday morning after a nine-game road trip, their lockers had new apparel hanging from the hooks. In honor of Memorial Day, Baltimore wore white jerseys with a "woodland" camouflage pattern and design licensed by the U.S. Marine Corps for its opener vs. the Red Sox.
Fans were able begin bidding on orioles.com/auction for each player's game-worn jersey starting at 1 p.m. ET, with the auction ending June 6 at 10 p.m. The proceeds from the jerseys, which will be autographed, will benefit Fort Meade Alliance Foundation. The foundation plans to use the proceeds to help with an anticipated $3.6 million renovation project to a facility on Fort Meade.

Before Monday's 1:35 p.m. start, the Orioles held a Memorial Day pregame ceremony with Col. Brian Foley, Garrison Commander of U.S. Army Fort Meade 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Additionally, nine active servicemen and women from Fort Meade shared the field with Orioles players while Sgt. First Class Randy Wight sang The Star Spangled Banner.
During the game at 3 p.m., the Orioles and Red Sox then joined the rest of Major League Baseball in an extended moment of silence in observance with the National Moment of Remembrance.
All fans attending Monday's game received an Orioles Memorial Day T-shirt decorated with the American flag and Baltimore's signature "O's" inside the flag.
