BALTIMORE -- Orioles slugger Mark Trumbo blasted his 30th home run in the first inning of Saturday's 5-2 win over the Indians to become the first player in the Majors to accomplish the feat this season. The two-run shot gave the O's a 3-0 lead.
"For a guy we were all about talking about how he does this in July, does this in June, does this in April; it's almost August," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "So he's putting together a year worthy of a lot of consideration."
Trumbo, who hadn't homered in the first inning this season before Friday, has done so in back-to-back games. He turned on a 1-1 fastball from Indians righty Josh Tomlin and sent it into the left-field seats.
According to Statcast™, the ball left the bat at 103 mph and traveled an estimated 388 feet at a launch angle of 22 degrees.
In his first season in Baltimore, Trumbo has reached the 30-homer plateau for the third time in his career and first time since 2013. He set a career high in 2013 with 34 long balls for the Angels.
"He's been very valuable," Showalter said. "He's been a real consistent human being. He likes to compete. He doesn't like to fail. It's an honor to be around him."
