A trio of Class A Short-Season Aberdeen hurlers, led by starter Jake Lyons, combined to toss a no-hitter on Monday as the IronBirds defeated Vermont, 7-0, on the road at Centennial Field.

Lyons, 20, covered the first five innings, striking out five while throwing 41 of 61 pitches for strikes. He faced one over the minimum in the outing, with a leadoff walk in the third inning representing the lone blemish on his performance. It was Lyons’ third career start as a professional after the Orioles took him in the 22nd round of this year’s Draft out of Oklahoma State. Overall, the 6-foot-5 right-hander has compiled a 3.27 ERA with 27 strikeouts and two walks in 22 innings spanning 10 outings.

James Ryan took over in the sixth and delivered three hitless frames to keep the IronBirds’ bid intact. He threw 22 of 35 pitches for strikes, striking out three. A 22-year-old right-hander from St. Katherine College, who signed as an non-drafted free agent in June, Ryan has not given up a run in 12 1/3 innings (six games) in the New York-Penn League.

Kyle Martin, Baltimore’s 15th-round pick from the ’19 Draft, struck out the side in the ninth to seal the first no-hitter in Aberdeen franchise history.

Orioles top prospect Adley Rutschman was behind the plate for the IronBirds’ combined no-hitter, making his eighth start in 14 games since his promotion to the NYPL. On offense the 2019 No. 1 overall Draft pick went 1-for-5, collecting a third-inning single before coming around to score.

Kyle Stowers, No. 12 on the Orioles’ Top 30 Prospects list, padded Aberdeen’s lead with a solo homer -- his second in as many days -- in the ninth that highlighted his 2-for-4 performance. The No. 71 overall pick from this year’s Draft has now gone deep three times in 38 pro games.
