BALTIMORE -- The Orioles' offense is officially back on track.
Baltimore came out swinging to back Wade Miley's gem in a 6-1 win over the D-backs on Saturday, vaulting the club into the American League's second Wild Card position. Trey Mancini hit his third career homer and Mark Trumbo hit his MLB-leading 45th home run for the Orioles, who lead the Tigers by one-half game for the second Wild Card.
Miley turned in his best start with Baltimore to ensure the offense held up. He struck out a career-high 11 over 8 2/3 innings. The left-hander was one out from a complete-game shutout, but Brandon Drury doubled off the high wall in right field to get the D-backs on the board.
"Yeah, it's huge. We got off to a good start. Put them on their heels a little early. scored that run in the first and their starter threw a lot of pitches up," Miley said. "I was just trying to get in, get quick outs and let those guys go back out there and hit. And we scored some runs."
Arizona starter Robbie Ray gave up five runs (four earned) over 3 2/3 innings, including Mancini's blast. Trumbo homered off reliever Silvino Bracho. Chris Davis also had a pair of RBIs for Baltimore.

"He didn't have his best command, he probably didn't have his best stuff and this is not a good team to do that against," D-backs manager Chip Hale said of Ray. "They have a bunch of big, hairy guys up there that hit the ball a long way."

Baltimore has one more home game on Sunday before heading to Toronto (currently the first Wild Card) and New York to finish the regular season against the Yankees.

Wily Miley: The Orioles' non-waiver Trade Deadline acquisition, Miley delivered his best performance yet against his former Arizona club. He held the D-backs to seven hits and didn't issue a walk in the impressive 116-pitch outing. It marked his second win as an Oriole.
"I've seen when he was going well, this is what you can expect for him," Trumbo said of Miley. "Tremendous tempo, he was working in and out. He had all his pitches going. That was just a great job tonight." More >

Ray's rough month continues: Ray allowed five runs for the third time in five starts and for the second consecutive outing. He lasted just 3 2/3 innings, his second-shortest start this year. It was also only the second time he hasn't completed four innings -- the other was a three-inning outing against the Pirates on April 24. The left-hander is 1-2 with a 7.66 ERA through five September starts.
"I can take positives away from every start, regardless of the result," Ray said. "I'm just going to come out my last start in D.C. and do what I can."

Mancini the Machine: Promoted to Baltimore on Sunday, Mancini became just the third player in Major League Baseball history to homer in each of his first three starts with Saturday night's blast. The rookie has provided a serious spark for the O's in just a few games.
"It's been incredible, you know?" Mancini said. "I could never imagine it happening this way, and it's still hard to believe. A week ago, I was down in Florida prepared for this, but it's cool, a week later, with everything that's happened, to be here in Baltimore and to contribute to it, to a postseason run." More >
Tomas removed from game: D-backs right fielder Yasmany Tomás was removed from the game in the fifth inning due to an apparent lack of hustle. Tomas struck out swinging to end the fourth and after a dropped third strike, he slowly trotted down the first-base line. He declined to speak to reporters after the game. More >

D-backs:Braden Shipley takes the mound for Arizona in the series finale at 10:35 a.m. MST. Shipley (4-4, 5.49 ERA) is 2-1 this month, but has posted a 7.27 ERA over his last four appearances (two starts). The right-hander makes his second start since rejoining the rotation. He lost to the Padres on Monday, allowing three runs in four innings.
Orioles: The Orioles will send Dylan Bundy to the mound for Sunday's series finale at 1:35 p.m. ET. Bundy has been struggling over his past seven starts, posting a 6.62 ERA and recording just one quality start. The rookie, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013, is two outs away from matching his professional career-high innings total from '12.
