SAN DIEGO -- The Orioles' home runs have reached record proportions.
With Mark Trumbo's two-run blast in the fourth inning during the O's 12-6 win over the Padres on Wednesday, Baltimore has tied the Major League record for homers in June with 55. The O's, who still have time to call the record their own, are currently tied with the 1996 Oakland Athletics.

"We still have another day in June according to my calculations, right?" center fielder Adam Jones said, referring to the O's game on Thursday against the Mariners. "So [we] might be able to break a Major League record for home runs. But I look at it as just passing the baton. Just having good at-bats. There's been good times and bad times, but over the last 20-30 games, we've all clicked together."
Those A's reached 55 over 29 games, while Baltimore has hit 55 in just 27 games, as the club continues to showcase some enviable power.
It was only fitting for the first-place O's that Trumbo would deliver the memorable blast, which traveled an estimated 410 feet. The slugger has a Major League-leading 23 homers and has been a big part of the O's offense in his first season with the club. He went deep off Padres starter Christian Friedrich, continuing to strengthen his case to be part of the All-Star Game in San Diego.
"Easily," Trumbo said, when asked if this lineup was the best he's ever been a part of. "Yeah. Consistently, too. There's just not too many teams that are going to be able to do what we do, and it's kind of the best-case scenario of what we were looking for going into the season."
The 1961 Yankees and Milwaukee Braves rank second and third on the list for home runs in June, with 53 and 52, respectively.
The record for home runs by a team in one calendar month is 58, shared by the Orioles in May '87 and the Mariners in May '99.
