BALTIMORE -- When the Orioles got a chance to step back into the batter's box after a fifth-inning fracas on Tuesday night, they let their bats pack a punch.
Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis launched back-to-back homers off Chien-Ming Wang, who had come on for ejected Royals starter Yordano Ventura, to help power the Orioles to a 9-1 win. A night after belting three homers, Baltimore sent four balls into the seats to at least temporarily take over the Major League-lead in homers (87) from the Rays, who didn't start playing until around the time the Orioles game finished.
"It's what you want to see," Trumbo said of the team's response. "There are a lot of emotions going on and there's a lot of things that can happen. Hopefully, you can use it to your advantage and not the other way around, and I think everyone was pretty fired up after that, and we were able to get a few runs across."
The O's have blasted seven home runs through the first two games of the series and have homered 18 times in their past six games. Before that stretch, Baltimore had gone without a dinger in four of its previous five games.

Even Ryan Flaherty, the only Oriole starter entering Tuesday who hadn't homered on the year, joined the power surge. He hit the first of the day, a 446-foot blast, per Statcast™, that landed on Eutaw Street. It is the second time he has sent a ball to Eutaw Street in his career and the second time Baltimore has had one land there this season.

"That had a lot of frustration in one [swing] because we know Ryan has some power," manager Buck Showalter said. "It was his first one. I'm sure it felt real good to him. I know it felt real good to us because we know how much it means to him and how hard he works at it."
