Orioles youth baseball events to highlight upcoming homestand

The Orioles return home tomorrow, Friday, May 5, for a five-game homestand beginning with a three-game, weekend series against the Chicago White Sox, and concluding with a two-game series against the Washington Nationals. During the homestand, the Orioles will distribute three unique giveaway items including an Orioles Tote Bag, a Birdland Yard Flag, and a Trey Mancini t-shirt. As always, students can enjoy a special discount on Friday nights, and children ages 4-14 can participate in the post-game Kids Run the Bases presented by Weis Markets following Sunday games throughout the year. Additionally, the Orioles will host nearly 750 children as part of the OriolesREACH Gameday Experience Program throughout the homestand. The Orioles upcoming weekend will be full of youth baseball events including a Fort Meade Youth Baseball Clinic on Saturday and the season's first Youth Baseball Day presented by Ripken Baseball on Sunday at Oriole Park.

FORT MEADE YOUTH BASEBALL CLINIC
The Orioles will conduct a clinic for 125 Fort Meade youth baseball players from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Fort Meade Military Base on Saturday, May 6. Orioles pitchers BRAD BRACH and DARREN O'DAY and former Orioles LARRY BIGBIE and KEN DIXON will help teach baseball fundamentals with a focus on baserunning, fielding, hitting, and throwing with the support of Fort Meade youth baseball coaches. The Orioles will provide each participant with an Orioles cap, poster, and tickets to Saturday's game against the White Sox. Additionally, ESSKAY will provide hotdogs to those attending the clinic. The Fort Meade Youth Sports Program is responsible for ensuring that the children whose parents serve on Fort Meade have opportunities to participate in youth sports including baseball, soccer, flag football, and basketball.
 
YOUTH BASEBALL DAY PRESENTED BY RIPKEN BASEBALL
On Sunday, May 7, the Orioles will host this season's first Youth Baseball Day presented by Ripken Baseball, when more than 10,000 pre-registered youth baseball and softball players will participate in a pre-game parade around the warning track and be greeted by Orioles players as they walk by the dugout. Teams, dressed in their uniforms, will carry banners and wave to their family members as they round the field. 
 
BIRDLAND COMMUNITY HEROES PROGRAM
Through the Birdland Community Heroes Program, the Orioles recognize community heroes who have inspired others through their spirited commitment to extend a hand in charity, service, hope, and harmony. This recognition honors the heroism of members of our extended Orioles community from all walks of life, occupations, and diverse backgrounds living in our region, our country, and abroad, who have distinguished themselves by selflessly working or volunteering in fields that care for, serve, teach, protect, and improve the lives of others, around the corner or around the globe, who are most in need.
 
The Orioles recognize local Birdland Community Heroes at Oriole Park during every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday home game. 
Through the Orioles' Great Americana Music Weekends, the club will also continue the tradition of celebrating American principles and ideals with live performances of classic, American songs during the seventh-inning stretch featuring "This Land Is Your Land" on Fridays, "America, The Beautiful" on Saturdays, and "God Bless America" on Sundays.

STUDENT NIGHTS
Friday nights are Student Nights at Oriole Park. Any student with a valid ID may purchase a Left Field Upper Reserve ticket for only $7 at every Friday home game during the 2017 regular season. Tickets must be purchased at the Box Office ticket windows at Oriole Park in advance or on the day of the game, subject to availability.
 
COPPIN STATE MEN'S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH JUAN DIXON TO THROW CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH
On Friday, May 5, former Captain of the 2002 University of Maryland NCAA Men's Basketball Championship team and newly-hired Head Coach for Coppin State University's Men's Basketball team, JUAN DIXON, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 7:05 p.m. game against the White Sox. Dixon, a Baltimore native, is Maryland's all-time leading scorer and the only player in NCAA history to accumulate 2,000 points, 300 steals, and 200 made 3-pointers. He was drafted in the first round of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards and played seven years with the Wizards, Portland Trailblazers, Toronto Raptors, and Detroit Pistons over his career. He is a member of the University of Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame and DC Sports Hall of Fame.
 
SATURDAY, MAY 6
 
TREY MANCINI TO APPEAR AT POINT BREEZE CREDIT UNION IN BEL AIR
On Saturday, May 6, Orioles outfielder TREY MANCINI will make an appearance at the Point Breeze Credit Union in Bel Air (410 South Atwood Road in Bel Air, Md.) from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 pm. Mancini will sign autographs and greet fans. The event is free of charge and open to the public and the media.
 
ORIOLES TOTE BAG GIVEAWAY
The first 20,000 fans ages 15 and over will receive an Orioles Tote Bag presented by MLB Network prior to Saturday's game against the White Sox.
 
RAVENS SAFETY TONY JEFFERSON TO THROW CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH
Prior to Saturday's game, newly-acquired Baltimore Ravens safety TONY JEFFERSON will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Jefferson, a former University of Oklahoma football star from Chula Vista, Calif., was signed as a rookie free agent in 2013 by the Arizona Cardinals. This offseason, the Ravens signed Jefferson to a four-year contract.
 
O'S ALL-STAR KIDS PRESENTED BY WHOLE FOODS MARKET
On Saturday, Whole Foods Market will present their first of 12 O's All-Star Kids promotions this season. At each of the 12 games, one boy and one girl will win a pre-game VIP experience which will include Orioles and Whole Foods Market prizes, a player meet and greet, and an on-field ceremony where they will be recognized on the scoreboard. Parents can register their child for a chance to win at local participating Whole Foods Markets.
 
JUNIOR ORIOLES DUGOUT CLUB GAME
Thousands of children who participate in the Junior Orioles Dugout Club will be in attendance on Saturday to root for the Orioles. The game will be the first of the season for Slugger Plan members. Kids ages 14 and under who join the Club receive a membership card, a lanyard and ticket holder, a subscription to Orioles Kids magazine, an Orioles cap, sport socks, tickets to six pre-selected Orioles games, all in a Dugout Club backpack. Friends and family members of Dugout Club members can purchase tickets on Dugout Club days for as low as $6 each. KIDS RUN THE BASES PRESENTED BY WEIS MARKETS
Sundays are family days at the ballpark, when all fans ages 4-14 will be able to participate in a postgame Kids Run the Bases, presented by Weis Markets. This is the third of 13 Sunday home games when kids can round the bases like their favorite Orioles.
 
MILITARY APPRECIATION PROGRAM PRESENTED BY GEICO
As part of the Orioles' Military Appreciation Program presented by GEICO, the Orioles and OriolesREACH donate a catered, private suite at each Sunday home game to servicemen and women. This Sunday, May 7, military members from USO OF METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON-BALTIMORE will enjoy the game against the Chicago White Sox in a suite, experience a meet-and-greet with BRAD BRACH and DARREN O'DAY, and receive a T-shirt and cap.
 
STEAL SECOND BASE PRESENTED BY ESSKAY
The Orioles will again feature the Steal Second Base contest during every Sunday home game this season. Presented by ESSKAY, the Steal Second Base contest challenges a young fan to race from the grounds crew area in center field to retrieve second base and back. Fans can enter the contest at any Fan Assistance Center. The lucky winner will receive four tickets to that day's game, an Orioles/ESSKAY jersey T-shirt and an Orioles cap. The contestants will also get to keep the authentic base that they steal. The participant for Sunday, May 7, is CONNER CRUMMITT, a 13-year-old from Myersville, Md.
 
MONDAY, MAY 8
 
DR. CARLA HAYDEN TO THROW CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH
Prior to the game on Monday, May 8, Librarian of Congress DR. CARLA HAYDEN will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Dr. Hayden was sworn in last September and is the first woman and first African-American to become Librarian of Congress. The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world and is the home of 162 million items including one of the largest baseball collections. Dr. Hayden was the CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore for 23 years. She was previously recognized by the Orioles as a Birdland Community Hero in 2016.
 
ORIOLES ALUMNI AUTOGRAPH SERIES
Every Monday and Thursday home game, former Orioles players will sign autographs on Eutaw Street as part of the Orioles Alumni Autograph Series. On May 8, former Orioles CHRIS HOILES, AARON RAKERS, and BILL SWAGGERTY will sign autographs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the autograph location will take place on the Lower Level Concourse near the Fan Assistance Center behind home plate. 
 
MTA RIDER APPRECIATION RALLY
As a celebration of the 25th anniversary of both the Camden Yards Light Rail Station and Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the Orioles and Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will host an MTA Rider Appreciation Rally at the Camden Yards Light Rail Station on Monday, May 8, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Orioles Infielder RYAN FLAHERTY will be signing autographs from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the Oriole Bird will be on hand taking photos with fans. Orioles public address announcer, RYAN WAGNER, will serve as the emcee, welcoming fans and asking trivia questions throughout the event for the chance to win prizes, including Orioles fan packs and autographed items. All fans are welcome to attend.
 
TREY MANCINI T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY

All fans in attendance for Monday's game against the Nationals will receive a Trey Mancini t-shirt. It is the first of five t-shirt giveaways the Orioles will do this season.

On Tuesday, May 9, the first 20,000 fans ages 15 and over will receive a Birdland yard flag.
 
WEDNESDAY, MAY 10
 
ORIOLES PLAYERS VISIT JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL USO HONOR GUARD LOUNGE
On Wednesday, May 10, in partnership with the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, Orioles players will visit the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall USO Honor Guard Lounge. During their visit, Orioles players will sign autographs and take photos with service members from the honor guard units. Players will also receive a tour of the 3rd Infantry Regiment Caisson Platoon stables. As the last full time equestrian mounted unit in the Department of Defense, the primary mission of the Caisson Platoon is to serve as the mounted escort to our nation's departed heroes in Arlington National Cemetery. This event is closed to the media and the public.
