Gallardo to throw bullpen session Sunday

May 21st, 2016

ANAHEIM-- Yovani Gallardo is progressing in his shoulder rehabilitation and will throw a bullpen session Sunday morning at Angel Stadium, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday.
The bullpen will be the first time Gallardo -- on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis -- has thrown off a mound since he left an April 22 start at Kansas City. He's been increasing his throwing progressions since beginning a throwing program on Saturday.
"He's moving real good now," Showalter said. "He's moving along good. You can just tell in his face walking around, he feels good about where he is. I think that process is moving at a good clip now."
If all goes well Sunday, Gallardo's next step would be a simulated game, Showalter said.
Worth noting
• Orioles left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland was removed from his start Friday with Triple-A Norfolk after one inning with an apparent quad injury, Showalter said.
"It's more upper knee as opposed to the quad. They're going to see how it is tomorrow. If it's not any better, they're going to send him to Baltimore and let Dr. Jacobs look at him," Showalter said.
The Orioles optioned McFarland to Triple-A on May 7. In eight relief appearances with the O's this year, the lefty was 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA.
