BOSTON -- Following his second rehab appearance in Double-A Bowie on Sunday night, Orioles closer Zach Britton said on Monday that he is hopeful that he will be activated off of the 10-day disabled list by the club on Tuesday following a left forearm strain that had him sidelined since April 18th.
Prior to the start of Baltimore's four-game series in Boston, his manager confirmed that he would indeed officially be rejoining the roster.
"Zach's back with us. [He'll] be activated tomorrow," Buck Showalter said.
"I feel like I'm ready to go," said Britton. "Yesterday was good, a lot better than the first one … kind of felt where I should be in order to get activated. I'm looking forward to getting back on the field with the team."
The Orioles' right-hander made two appearances with the Baysox, the first -- in which he alluded to having "a little hesitation" -- came on Friday.
In that effort, Britton used up 28 pitches and was unable to get out of the inning, recording only two outs after allowing two walks and a solo home run.
"Everything was kind of up," he said of his first rehab outing. "I told Buck I felt a little rusty. But yesterday felt good."
On Sunday, he made it through an entire frame for Bowie on just 11 pitches, allowing a lone hit while striking out one.
Monday, after rejoining the club, he was ready to put the injury behind him, as well as the recent shenanigans that have occurred between Baltimore and Boston since Manny Machado went in with a hard slide on Dustin Pedroia back on April 21st.
"We're just looking forward to playing this series. There's really not a whole lot, I think, that's going to carry over," said Britton, who was a vocal participant during the back-and-forth between the two clubs. "Dustin reached out to a veteran player on our team about the comments and just wanted to clarify some things. Once he did that, I think we turned the page and moved on."
His manager backed the sentiment diplomatically as the American League East leaders look to maintain an upper hand on their division rival.
"I know the respect that our guys have for their club," Showalter said. "I think if you really took a poll, people are looking forward to playing baseball against a really good team."
• Showalter said prior to Monday night's game that catcher Welington Castillo was day to day with neck spasms. The O's backstop has started behind the plate in 17 of 23 games thus far this season. Castillo was not in the Baltimore lineup on Monday.
• Right-hander Mike Wright was recalled and Logan Verrett was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Wright, who made 18 appearances for Baltimore last season, was 0-3 with a 5.79 ERA in five starts for Norfolk this season.
