BALTIMORE -- After recalling right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne for Saturday's game, the Orioles optioned him back to Triple-A Norfolk after the 12-2 loss to the Astros. Despaigne was called up to provide long relief, and he came on to allow four runs over three innings after Chris Tillman didn't get out of the third inning.
The Orioles haven't made a corresponding move, but it clears room for them to add another arm for the bullpen before Sunday's series finale. Relievers have accounted for 14 1/3 innings the past two games.
"What's tough is we have such a quick turnaround, a day game tomorrow, and Norfolk was in Durham busing back to Norfolk tonight," manager Buck Showalter said. "We've obviously got some plans in place."
The Orioles made an additional roster move before Saturday's game, recalling catcher Francisco Peña from Triple-A Norfolk and placing catcher Matt Wieters on paternity leave.
Wieters' wife was induced into labor on Saturday, and Showalter said the catcher will probably miss Sunday's game, too. Wieters can remain on the paternity list for a maximum of three days.
This marks Pena's second stint with the club. He served as Wieters' backup when Caleb Joseph missed all of June with a testicular injury. Pena has started nine games for the Orioles this season, batting .219 with one homer. He said the prior experience will help him if called upon before Wieters returns.

"In Spring Training, I met all those guys and caught them," Pena said. "But doing it here at the Major league level, it boosted my confidence a little bit more. I think it'll help me a lot."

• Lefty Brian Duensing is scheduled to make four rehab appearances as he works back from left elbow inflammation. He's scheduled to throw one inning in the Gulf Coast League on Monday and Wednesday before moving to Double-A Bowie to throw two innings on Aug. 27 and Aug. 30. He hasn't pitched in the Majors since June 19.
