O's 'pen hopeful Escalona sidelined for three weeks

TAMPA, Fla. -- Orioles bullpen hopeful Edgmer Escalona will be shut down for three weeks with right shoulder inflammation after making just one appearance this spring.

"They did some work on it, he saw two different doctors," said manager Buck Showalter, who spoke with Escalona on Tuesday. "Got a second opinion, and decided to shut him down for three weeks and see where he is. He hasn't had any type of injection or anything yet, as of today."

Escalona was a long shot to make the bullpen, and the injury pretty much rules out his chances of being on the club's Opening Day roster.

Outfielder Henry Urrutia said Tuesday morning all of the pain in his right shoulder is gone, and it's just a little sore at this point. Urrutia was slated to try to throw during the team's practices, and he hoped to be cleared to play on Wednesday, although Showalter said it would probably be "a couple days" before Urrutia was an option for a Grapefruit League game.

Urrutia has been shut down the past two days with inflammation that first crept up when he made a throw on Friday.
