FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Just hours after manager John Farrell said that Pablo Sandoval was still making adjustments to improve defensively, the third baseman made two errors in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Rays.
Sandoval made a fielding error and a throwing error, but he continues to work hard each morning, spending extra time on his defense with infield instructor Brian Butterfield.
"I just try to catch them. Nothing I can say, but I've been working on my defense and it's part of the game," said Sandoval. "I just tried to make a play out there. I'm feeling good. It was a tough hop and I ended up late, so I didn't catch the ball."

In the mornings with Butterfield, Sandoval has specifically worked on trying to improve his range.
"First step, that's what I've been looking for," said Sandoval. "Trying to get my first step back, get low so I can catch the ball."
Sandoval's other mission in camp is to rediscover his swing from the right side of the plate. Last season, Sandoval hit exclusively left-handed from May 24 on.
Monday was his first start against a lefty, and he hit the ball hard twice while going 0-for-2.
"I felt good," Sandoval said. "Working the count, fighting to try to get a good at-bat. That's what I was looking for."
