Pipeline Preview: Morejon starts must-win Game 3

September 16th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: (A's No. 4), Midland at Tulsa (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Mateo hit a triple and scored an important insurance run on Friday as Double-A Midland blanked Tulsa, 2-0, in Game 3 of the Texas League finals. The triple was the first in the postseason for the 22-year-old shortstop after he finished tied for the Minor League lead with 18 triples during the regular season. The RockHounds trail Tulsa, 2-1, in the best-of-five series.

Pitcher to watch: Adrian Morejon (Padres' No. 5), Fort Wayne at Quad Cities (7:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Morejon, MLBPipeline.com's No. 73 overall prospect, turned in a quality performance against Dayton in Game 1 of the Midwest League semifinals. Working six innings, the 18-year-old left-hander allowed one earned run on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He'll start Saturday in a must-win Game 3 for Fort Wayne after dropping the first two games of the best-of-five championship series.

Duel of the day: (Athletics No. 9) vs. Yadier Alvarez (Dodgers No. 3), Midland at Tulsa (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Holmes struggled in his Double-A postseason debut, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in 4 1/3 innings against Double-A San Antonio on Sept. 8. The 21-year-old right-hander will look for a better result tonight in a must-win for the RockHounds in Game 4 of the Texas League finals.

Like Holmes, Alvarez was roughed up a bit in his Double-A playoff debut. Baseball's No. 48 overall prospect allowed four earned runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 frames in a 16-8 win over Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Sept. 9. Alvarez posted a 3.55 ERA in seven starts (33 innings) with the Drillers after earning a promotion from Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamongo on July 20.

More top prospect probables
