SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Michel Baez. Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller made the announcement.
The 20-year-old Cuba native pitched in Cuba's top professional league, Serie Nacional, for both Mayabeque and Pinar del Rio in 2014, at the age of 18. The 6-foot-8 right hander spent the past year fine-tuning mechanics and delivery, increasing velocity and developing secondary pitches. Baez hails from Mayabeque, the same hometown as recent Padres signees Adrian Morejon and Ronald Bolanos.
