PEORIA, Ariz. -- Padres outfielder Alex Dickerson is scheduled for season-ending left elbow surgery at the end of the month and will be out of action for the second consecutive year.
Dickerson was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament after injuring the elbow during throwing drills early in camp. He missed all of last season after undergoing surgery for a bulging disk in his back.
"He just wasn't getting any better with his elbow," Padres manager Andy Green said. "It will put him out for the entire season, which is tough for us."

In parts of two seasons with San Diego in 2015 and '16, Dickerson batted .257/.331/.448.
Lamet strengthens case
Dinelson Lamet continues to make a case for a spot in the club's Opening Day rotation. On Tuesday night, the 25-year-old right-hander was charged with three runs --- one earned -- on six hits in 5 2/3 innings in an eventual 3-3 tie with the Reds. He struck out seven using a steady dose of fastballs, sliders and curveballs.
"I felt like I was controlling all of my pitches, and more importantly, I felt like I was controlling my body mechanically," Lamet said. "I came here with a positive mindset and to fight for a job. I always feel like I'm No. 1 starter and that's my mentality. If they name me the fifth starter, I'm going to compete like a No. 1."
Injury updates
• The club remains concerned with Allen Cordoba, who suffered a concussion in a car accident in Panama early last month. The infielder is still showing concussion-related symptoms, including sensitivity to light.
"He's not getting any better at all and not even cleared to do any real walking activity," Green said. "He's had a rough go and we don't know how long it is going to take at this point in time.
• Franchy Cordero, 23, who left Thursday night's game with groin tightness, is "moving around," but he is not running, and it's uncertain when he will return to action. Cordero is competing with Jose Pirela and Hunter Renfroe for the starting left-field job.
• Right-hander Bryan Mitchell, who started in a "B" game on Sunday after he was scratched from his scheduled Cactus League start on Saturday with neck stiffness, is scheduled to pitch in a camp game Friday with Tyson Ross and Robbie Erlin. Joey Lucchesi, the Padres' No. 9 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, will pitch in Mitchell's spot Thursday against the Indians.
Camp battle
The competition between Cory Spangenberg and Carlos Asuaje for the starting job at second base has been one to watch all spring. Asuaje, who started Tuesday night against the Reds, has 17 hits in 20 Cactus League games this spring. He's hit three doubles, three triples and two home runs. He's also driven in 13 runs.

The Padres will send Luis Perdomo to the mound against the White Sox at Camelback Ranch at 1:05 p.m. PT. Christopher Young, who is also competing for a spot on the pitching staff, is scheduled to pitch six innings in a camp game.
