MIAMI -- Scratching Andrew Cashner from Sunday's start not only forced changes to the Marlins' lineup but also the Padres prior to a 3-1 win at Marlins Park.
Cashner, a right-handed pitcher, has a blister that kept him from his usual start in the rotation. In his place, the Marlins called up lefty Justin Nicolino to step in and take the mound.
That forced the hand of Padres manager Andy Green.
"I suppose I'm channeling my inner [Cubs manager] Joe Maddon at this point in time," Green quipped.
In an effort to get both right-handed bats in the lineup and give outfielder Alex Dickerson some added rest, Green made some interesting changes.
Padres shortstop Alexei Ramirez made his first Major League start in right field on Sunday and third baseman Adam Rosales was initially scheduled to play left field. But Wil Myers was a late scratch with a stomach virus, moving Rosales to third and Dickerson to left.
"Both of those guys have played outfield, mostly in winter ball," Green said. "Alexei played for the Cuban National team, played center field for a while. Rosie has played out there. It's not completely new to them."
It was Green's opportunity to get right-handed batters in the lineup.
"And I know Dickerson can handle left-handed pitching, but sometimes the opportunity [presents itself] to give him today [off]," Green said before Myers' late scratch. "Plus, with an off-day on Monday, it gives him an extra day of rest.
"He's still kind of battling through that body soreness that he's had since he had that collision with [Travis] Jankowski on the warning track."

The two collided in a game on July 29 with Cincinnati at Petco Park.
