Padres announce top 30 candidates for public address announcer

Fan vote set to begin Friday, April 4 at padres.com and on Twitter

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced the Top 30 candidates in the search for the next Petco Park public address announcer. The group was narrowed down from 50 following two exhibition games at the University of San Diego on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29. During the course of the two exhibition games, each of the Top 50 candidates announced at least one batter. Information about the Top 30 candidates can be found in the attached document and at www.padres.com/announcer.

The Top 30 includes 27 men and three women from all over San Diego County and Southern California, and even across the United States, with candidates from as far away as Georgia and New Hampshire. The group ranges from professional and amateur announcers to small business owners and even a professional wrestler.

During the first series against Los Angeles (March 30-April 2), each of the Top 30 will have the chance to announce part of a regular season game at Petco Park.

Padres fans will then have a say in who moves on. A fan vote online and via social media will run from Friday, April 4 to Monday, April 7 to help narrow down the field from 30 to the Top 10. Those 10 finalists will each announce additional parts of a Padres game between April 11 and April 20 before the pool is narrowed to the Top 3. As their final tryout, each of the three will announce a full game. Petco Park's next public address announcer will be announced during the series against the San Francisco Giants (April 18-20).
