SAN DIEGO -- The Padres wrapped up Play Ball Weekend on Sunday with a Little League Day parade, featuring more than 7,500 players and coaches.
Before Sunday's game against the Dodgers, the Petco Park warning track was abuzz with Little Leaguers in colorful jerseys. A preselected group of youth players were also permitted to take infield practice prior to the game.

The parade put a cap on an exciting weekend, which began Friday when players visited Porter Elementary School, where they spoke with students and took part in a clinic. Then, on Saturday, kids from local Little Leagues took the field along with the players.

Play Ball Weekend serves as part of Major League Baseball's Play Ball initiative, which encourages participation in baseball activities -- whether in formal leagues or in casual settings. 2016 marked the first year in which a weekend was designated to celebrate the initiative.
