Padres extend Player Development Contract with Single-A Eugene through 2014
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres announced today that they have extended their Player Development Contract with Single-A Eugene of the Northwest League for two years through the 2014 season. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.
“The Padres are thrilled to continue our relationship with the Emeralds and the city of Eugene,” said Byrnes. “PK Park is a tremendous place to develop our young talent and the staff, from Allan Benavides and Pat Murphy down, is second to none in the Northwest League.”
The Emeralds have been an affiliate of the Padres organization since 2001. The club has finished with the best overall record in the Northwest League each of the past two seasons, including a 47-29 (.618) overall mark in 2012.
“We are excited to continue our relationship in Eugene with the Ems,” said Padres Vice President, Player Development and International Scouting Randy Smith. “PK Park is a great place to develop our young players. We hope to bring playoff baseball back to Eugene after falling short this past season despite having the best record in the league.”
Heading into the club’s 13th season as an affiliate of the Padres, this extension will now serve as the longest such relationship in Emeralds history. The Emeralds have been playing baseball in Eugene since 1955 and have had affiliations with 10 separate Major League clubs.
