Chacin's sore foot won't keep him from start

April 26th, 2017

PHOENIX -- Padres right-hander said he awoke on Tuesday morning with his left foot sore and swollen. He was optimistic, but just a tad worried, hoping precautionary X-rays taken at Chase Field prior to his club's 9-3 loss to the D-backs would offer only good news.
It turned out to be the best news of a long night.
"The X-rays were negative," Padres manager Andy Green said after the game. "He's a little sore, but he should be able to make his next start."
Chacin fouled a ball off that foot before singling to center during his third-inning at bat on Monday. He continued in the game through six innings of the 7-6 loss, but it was after that incident that the D-backs had their most success.
Chacin allowed seven runs on eight hits, four of the runs on a Chris Owings grand slam during the fifth inning.
"I don't think it's too bad," Chacin said on Tuesday, although he struggled to pull on his left sock and baseball shoe while dressing at his locker. "I was able to keep pitching [Monday]. I'm going to get X-rayed just to make sure it's nothing bad."
Chacin's next start is slated for Saturday against the Giants in San Francisco. The Padres placed outfielder on the disabled list Monday with a similar injury, a deep bone bruise in his right foot caused by a foul ball off his own bat.
It's been a tale of two seasons thus far for Chacin. He's 2-0 at Petco Park where he's allowed no runs on six hits in 14 2/3 innings. On the road, he's 0-3 and has allowed 20 runs (19 earned) on 24 hits for an 11.93 ERA.
