PHOENIX -- Both times the Padres fell behind the D-backs on Monday night at Chase Field, they answered right back. Yangervis Solarte and Derek Norris each hit two-run homers in support of a quality start from Luis Perdomo to give San Diego an 8-4 win in the series opener.
Perdomo (3-3) allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings, scattering nine hits, as the Padres tacked on three runs in the eighth to close out their third win in four games. Perdomo has gone six innings in three of his last four outings. The Rule 5 pick owns a 62-percent ground-ball rate in the past month and recorded 12 ground-ball outs Monday, with just two fly outs. "Every hitter in the big leagues hits a straight fastball," said Perdomo. "At least with my sinker, I go out there and just try to get ground balls. For me, it's an important pitch to get outs."
D-backs starter Archie Bradley allowed five earned runs on six hits and three walks, notching seven strikeouts. The right-hander fell to 3-4, losing for the first time since June 14. Paul Goldschmidt drove in a run for Arizona, which lost for the eighth time in nine games and fell to 14-31 at home.

"We're just not playing winning baseball right now, that's what it comes down to," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "You can make excuses for it, but we just have to play better."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Green light: Norris made Bradley pay for attacking the inside corner with a 3-0 fastball. The Padres backstop turned on the pitch and deposited it into the left-field seats, breaking a 3-3 tie with the two-run shot. Norris is now 5-for-6 with three homers in his career when he's given the green light on a 3-0 count. He'd later add an RBI double, as the Padres put the game out of reach with a three-run eighth, but exited in the bottom of the frame after being struck on the left elbow by Brandon Drury's backswing.
"I think he's going to be fine," Padres manager Andy Green said. "I think he's going to need an X-ray just to check and make sure everything's good. It caught him right on the nerve that's on the funny bone and he just couldn't get feeling back. It just caught him wrong." More >

Can't hold the lead: Bradley pitched with a lead twice but both times, home runs prevented him from keeping the D-backs out front. Solarte's homer tied it at 2 in the fourth. In the sixth, Bradley gave up an RBI double to Matt Kemp that tied it at 3, then a two-run homer to Norris that put the Padres ahead, 5-3. Bradley allowed a season-high five runs for the third time.
"Looking back, just a bad pitch selection," Bradley said. "I knew [Norris] was going to be swinging in that situation and it was just a really bad decision on my part." More >
Good for the Sol: Solarte committed a costly first-inning error, but emphatically made up for it with a 440-foot blast into the right-field seats in the fourth. The home run tied the game at 2 and was Solarte's longest ever recorded by Statcast™. He's now batting .329 at Chase Field, with four dingers -- his most at any stadium, aside from Petco Park.
"The most important thing is, I'm feeling good," said Solarte, who has battled injuries to his right hamstring and left thumb already this season.

Keep driving them in: D-backs third baseman Jake Lamb entered Monday leading the National League in slugging percentage. He drove in his eighth run in his last six games with a two-out RBI triple in the fifth that put Arizona ahead, 3-2. Lamb has a team-best 59 RBIs and 45 extra-base hits this season, including six triples -- a new career-high.

WHAT'S NEXT
Padres:Christian Friedrich turned in the best start of his career earlier this season in Arizona, with seven shutout innings. He'll look to duplicate that Tuesday night, with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m. PT. Friedrich has struggled a bit of late, having allowed at least four earned runs in his past three starts.
D-backs: The D-backs will recall Zack Godley to start against the Padres in the second of the three-game set at Chase Field on Tuesday night at 6:40 MST. Godley had a 4.35 ERA in five games (one start) earlier this season. In his only start in the Majors this year, the right-hander allowed two runs in six innings in a win over the Marlins on June 11.
