Padres name Mike Dee President and CEO

Dee, who worked for Padres from 1995-2002, was CEO of Miami Dolphins since 2009

The San Diego Padres today announced they have named Mike Dee president and chief executive officer. Lead Investor, Peter Seidler, and Executive Chairman, Ron Fowler, made the announcement.

"We are ecstatic to bring Mike back to San Diego as our president and CEO," said Fowler and Seidler in a joint statement. "He has the experience, passion and intellect to drive this organization to great success. All of these qualities, combined with his familiarity with our community and his legendary energy, are going to assure exciting times for Padres' fans."

"I am thrilled to be coming home to San Diego - an extraordinary community that has always been very special to me," said Dee. "The Padres organization is where I started my sports career nearly two decades ago, and I am grateful to Ron and Peter for the opportunity to return to my roots."

Dee returns to San Diego after spending eight successful seasons with the Padres from 1995-2002, joining the club as director of corporate development before several promotions that lead to his appointment as Senior Vice President of Business Affairs in 2001. While with the Padres, the club won two division titles, a National League pennant and successfully passed proposition C that led to the construction of Petco Park.

Dee most recently served as the CEO of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium since May 3, 2009. While with the Dolphins, he developed initiatives to grow the fan base and game-day experience, finalized a ground-breaking naming rights deal while enhancing relationships with the club's business partners and re-focused team resources to create a greater emphasis on community relations efforts.

Dee served as Executive Vice President of Business Affairs for the Boston Red Sox beginning in 2002 prior to his promotion to Chief Operating Officer in 2004. While with the Red Sox, Dee also served as President of Fenway Sports Group, a company that he created in 2004 under the direction of Red Sox ownership to diversify the business interests of the Red Sox beyond baseball. During his tenure in Boston, the Red Sox won two World Series titles and set franchise records for attendance and revenue each year - including an MLB record consecutive sellouts streak dating to 2003.

Dee played basketball and earned a degree in government from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Penn., where he still serves on the Advisory Board.

Dee and his wife, Karen, have two sons
