Aybar placed on DL; Padres recall Baumann

Reliever delivers scoreless frame; Stammen day to day with tight hamstring

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Padres have picked up their fair share of bumps and bruises during a pair of extra-inning battles in San Francisco this weekend.
Before Saturday's 5-4, 12-inning loss, shortstop was placed on the 10-day disabled list after fouling a ball off his left foot in the 11th on Friday night. Meanwhile, righty reliever is day to day with a tight left hamstring he sustained while running from first to third in the sixth inning, also on Friday.
Catcher also took a foul ball off his mask Friday night. He exited the game early and was out of the starting lineup Saturday, though he made a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth inning and grounded out.
In place of Aybar, the Padres recalled lefty reliever Buddy Baumann, who had missed the first half of the season with a left shoulder bruise.

"We anticipated his rehab lasting a little longer and going through [Triple-A] El Paso," said Padres manager Andy Green. "But with what we've been through in the bullpen, we're bringing another arm up right now."
Baumann worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts Saturday.
"That's the Buddy we saw last year when he got called up," said Green. "It's a weird arm angle. It's a different slot. Guys have trouble seeing it, and he ends up punching a lot of guys out. It's good to get him back and good to see him throw the ball well."
The Padres expect to call up another shortstop in the near future. But for now, Rule 5 Draft pick will see a bump in playing time. Green mentioned Dusty Coleman and as options to join the big league club in Aybar's absence.
