SAN DIEGO -- The season of giving has arrived in San Diego, or -- more specifically for the Padres' purposes -- the "12 Days of Giving."
The Padres' holiday caravan is slated to begin on Tuesday. Running through Dec. 16, the annual tour has been given the moniker the "12 Days of Giving." It will include 40 stops throughout San Diego County and the Baja region of Mexico.
The tour begins with several members of the organization in attendance to honor service men and women at the Wounded Warrior Holiday Luncheon. It wraps up Dec. 16 with the San Diego Cares Blood Drive. At the latter event, players from the 1998 squad that won the National League title will be on hand to participate in a question-and-answer session with fans.
Other highlights include a Dec. 10 trip to Liga Municipal de Tijuana Little League to renovate a youth baseball field. While in Tijuana, the Padres will head to Mi Estancia, which houses families of children receiving treatment at the Tijuana General Hospital.
Also on tap: The Rock Church's Toys for Joy program, a free youth softball clinic at Petco Park, Armed Services Camp Pendleton's Secret Santa and a bike-distribution event for underserved kids. On Dec. 6, Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler will take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego for the unveiling of the Padres and Fowler Family Playroom.
The full list of events can be found here. The 40 events on this year's docket are twice as many as last year's total, and the tour lasts an extra two days.
