Padres recall LHP Robbie Erlin and LHP Tommy Layne from Triple-A Tucson and place RHP Huston Street on 15-day DL

Club also options RHP Nick Vincent to Triple-A Tucson

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced that they have recalled left-handed pitchers Robbie Erlin and Tommy Layne from Triple-A Tucson, have placed right-hander Huston Street on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 30) with a strained left calf muscle and have optioned right-hander Nick Vincent to Tucson. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

Erlin, 22, is making his second stint this season and is expected to make the start for the Padres in their 7:10 pm game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Petco Park tonight. The southpaw was selected from Tucson earlier this season on April 24 and made his Major League debut on April 30 at Chicago-NL. In two games with San Diego, he posted a 9.00 ERA (2 ER, 2.0 IP) before being optioned back to Tucson on May 2. Over eight starts for Tucson this season, he has gone 4-0 with a 3.79 ERA (17 ER, 40.1 IP) and 37 strikeouts against 13 walks. In his latest outing for Tucson on May 27 vs. Sacramento, he worked 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out a season-high 11 batters. Erlin was acquired by the Padres from the Texas Rangers along with right-hander Joe Wieland in exchange for right-hander Mike Adams on July, 31 2011. 

Layne, 28, is also making his second stint with the Padres this season. The left-hander was recalled for the first time on May 24 and worked in one game for San Diego before being optioned back to Tucson on May 26. In 20 relief outings total for Tucson this season, he has gone 1-3 with a 3.79 ERA (8 ER, 19.0 IP) and 15 strikeouts against 12 walks. 

Street, 29, has gone 0-3 with 11 saves in 12 opportunities, a 4.43 ERA (10 ER, 20.1 IP) and 13 strikeouts against eight walks over 21 relief outings. Since being acquired by the Padres on December 7, 2011, he has gone 2-4 with 34 saves in 36 chances, a 2.73 ERA (18 ER, 59.1 IP) and 60 strikeouts against just 19 walks over 61 relief appearances.   Over parts of nine Major League seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2005-08), Colorado Rockies (2009-11) and Padres (2012-13), he has gone 32-35 with 212 saves, a 3.07 ERA (169 ER, 495.2 IP) and 501 strikeouts against 130 walks in 478 relief appearances.

Vincent, 26, was recalled from Triple-A Tucson on Thursday, May 30, and made his season debut that day. In two games total for the Padres he has worked 4.0 scoreless innings, including a career-high 3.0 scoreless innings last night. Over 20 relief appearances for Tucson this year, he has gone 4-3 with a 4.15 ERA (10 ER, 21.2 IP) with 17 strikeouts.
