Padres recall RHP Miles Mikolas from Triple-A Tucson and option RHP Cory Burns to Triple-A Tucson

The San Diego Padres today announced they have recalled right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas from Triple-A Tucson and optioned right-handed pitcher Cory Burns to the same Tucson club. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Mikolas, 23, is in his third stint with the Padres after having made his Major League debut for San Diego May 5 against the Miami Marlins at Petco Park. In 15 relief outings for the Padres, the right-hander has gone 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA (7 ER/16.1 IP), a .233 (14-for-60) opponents batting average and 14 strikeouts against 11 walks. In 29 relief appearances between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson this year, he has gone 3-2 with a 3.09 ERA (11 ER/32.0 IP).

Burns, 24, made his Big League debut with 1.2 innings of scoreless ball last night. He has gone 1-2 with a 2.63 ERA (19 ER/65.0 IP) and three saves in 53 relief appearances for Triple-A Tucson this year. The right-hander has not allowed a run in his last 15 outings for Tucson (dating back to June 30), recording a scoreless streak of 18.2-innings during which he allowed just five hits while striking out 21. Originally signed as an eighth-round selection by the Cleveland Indians in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Burns has gone 7-11 with a 2.20 ERA (52 ER/212.1 IP) and 91 saves in 183 minor league relief appearances over parts of four seasons in the Indians (2009-11) and Padres (2012) organizations.
