Padres reinstate RHP Andrew Cashner and LHP Joe Thatcher from 15-day disabled list

 

The San Diego Padres today announced they have reinstated both right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner and left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher from the 15-day disabled list. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.



Cashner, 25, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 4 with a strained right latissimus dorsi muscle.  The right-hander made three rehabilitation starts with Triple-A Tucson going 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA (3 ER/9.0 IP) and eight strikeouts against just two walks in his three rehab starts.  Cashner was previously was recalled from Double-A San Antonio on June 28 and made two starts for the Padres, after being optioned to San Antonio on June 10.  Overall for San Diego this season, he has gone 3-3 with a 3.44 ERA (14 ER/36.2 IP) and 45 strikeouts against 19 walks in 30 games, three starts. Over parts of three Major League seasons with the Chicago Cubs (2010-11) and Padres (2012), Cashner has gone 5-9 with a 3.98 ERA (45 ER/101.2 IP) in 90 games, four starts.



Thatcher, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 30 with right knee tendonitis. The southpaw made one rehabilitation appearance with Single-A Lake Elsinore on August 29, working 1.0 scoreless inning with a strikeout.  In 40 relief outings for the Padres this season, he has gone 0-4 with a 3.42 ERA (10 ER/26.1 IP) and 28 strikeouts against 10 walks.  Over parts of six Major League seasons (2007-12), all with the Padres, he is 4-10 with a 3.37 ERA (61 ER/163.0 IP) and 170 strikeouts against 61 walks in 222 relief outings.



With today's transactions the Padres currently have 27 players on their active roster.
