Padres reinstate INF Logan Forsythe from 60-day DL and OF Mark Kotsay from 15-day DL

The San Diego Padres today announced they have reinstated infielder Logan Forsythe from the 60-day disabled list and outfielder Mark Kotsay from the 15-day disabled list.  In addition, the club has placed infielder Andy Parrino on the 15-day disabled list with a right wrist ligament sprain, retroactive to May 31, and have optioned catcher Yasmani Grandal to Triple-A Tucson.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

Forsythe, 25, was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 26 with a fractured left foot. The infielder underwent surgery on his left foot on March 9.  In 16 games for Triple-A Tucson, on a rehabilitation assignment, he hit .259 (15-for-58) with two doubles, three triples, one home run, nine RBI, 12 runs scored and three stolen bases.  He made his Big League debut with the Padres in 2011, hitting .213 (32-for-150) with nine doubles, one triple, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored in 62 games, starting 36 games total with 21 at third base and 15 at second base.

Kotsay, 36, was placed on the disabled list on May 19 with a lower back strain. He has hit .294 (10-for-34) with two doubles, one home run, six RBI and four runs scored in 18 games played and eight games started for San Diego this season. In the pinch this year, he has gone 3-for-10 with a double, a home run and four RBI. 

Parrino, 26, made his first career Opening Day roster for the Padres this season.  In 39 games, he has hit .176 (16-for-91) with four doubles, one home run, three RBI and seven runs scored.  The switch-hitter has started 24 games this season, with 18 at shortstop, five at second base and one at third base.  Parrino made his Major League debut for the Padres last season and has now hit .178 (24-for-135) with five doubles, one home run, seven RBI and 10 runs scored in 63 career games played.

Grandal, 23, was recalled from Triple-A Tucson on June 1.  He made his Major League debut last night vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks as a defensive replacement and went 0-for-1 at the plate. In 34 games for Tucson this year, he has hit .317 (38-for-120) with 10 doubles, four home runs, 23 RBI, 22 runs scored and 21 walks. Originally selected by the Reds in the first round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft (12th overall) out of the University of Miami, he has hit .307 (160-for-522) with 42 doubles, 18 home runs, 92 RBI, 95 runs scored and 84 walks over 147 minor league games played.

With today’s transactions, the Padres currently have a full 40-man roster.
