Padres reinstate RHP Tyson Ross from 15-day DL and place LHP Clayton Richard on the 15-day DL

The San Diego Padres today announced that they have reinstated right-handed pitcher Tyson Ross from the 15-day disabled list and have placed left-handed pitcher Clayton Richard on the 15-day disabled list with an intestinal virus. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Ross, 26, was placed on the disabled list on April 20, retroactive to April 18, with a left shoulder subluxation. The right-hander will return from the disabled list today and be available in the Padres bullpen. He made two relief appearances on a rehabilitation assignment for Tucson, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 2.2 innings pitched. He has made three starts for San Diego this season, going 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA (6 ER/14.0 IP). Acquired this past offseason in a four-player trade with the Oakland Athletics, he has gone 6-19 with a 5.20 ERA (94 ER/162.2 IP) with 114 strikeouts against 80 walks in 56 games, 24 starts, over parts of four Major League seasons with the Athletics (2010-12) and Padres (2013).

Richard, 29, has gone 0-4 with an 8.54 ERA (25 ER/26.1 IP) in six starts for the Padres this season. The southpaw worked 3.2 innings in a start against the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday at Petco Park, allowing seven runs, five earned, on seven hits and four walks. Over parts of six Major League seasons with the Chicago White Sox (2008-09) and Padres (2009-13), he has gone 44-46 with a 4.29 ERA (356 ER/747.0 IP) in 141 games, 124 starts.
