Pitching atop Padres' Winter Meetings wish list

GM Preller will also look to add shortstop, more experience to young roster

December 4th, 2016

MLB.com and MLB Network will have wall-to-wall coverage of the 2016 Winter Meetings from the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. Fans can watch live streaming of all news conferences and manager availabilities on MLB.com, including the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday at 6 a.m. PT.
General manager A.J. Preller is no stranger to making a splash at the Meetings. Two years ago, he laid the groundwork for the and deals. Last year, he finalized the trade, dealt for and acquired four Rule 5 selections.
This time around, Preller's main focus will be pitching -- especially after veteran was non-tendered on Friday. But Preller would also like to add a shortstop and a couple veterans to offset a very young roster.

Preller said the Padres will "cast a wide net" in their search for rotation help -- meaning they'll explore every avenue, including trades, free agency and a couple internal options.
Coverage of the Padres' impending decisions, along with reaction to Preller's daily media sessions, will be live on padres.com all week. Manager Andy Green will also meet with the media at noon PT on Wednesday. The Friars are nearing the end of their search for two coaches on Green's staff, and he will likely address that process, as well as his team's pitching plans for 2017.
MLB.com will have you covered for all breaking Padres news from the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center outside Washington, D.C. this week. Which pitchers should the Friars target? Who do you think could compete with to be the starting shortstop?
Keep the discussion going in the comments section below. And stay tuned. Preller and the Winter Meetings already have quite a history.
