Ross has crisp outing against White Sox

PEORIA, Ariz. -- San Diego pitcher Tyson Ross, No. 3 in the Padres' rotation, looked sharp Saturday as he allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings against the White Sox.

Ross didn't factor in the decision as the Padres rallied for a 3-3 tie at the Peoria Sports Complex.

Ross allowed six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Alexi Amarista doubled and then scored on the first of two Jedd Gyorko doubles on the day.

The White Sox tied the game in the third inning when Leury Garcia scored from third base as Garcia grounded into a double play. Dayan Viciedo had two hits for the White Sox. Avisail Garcia notched a tiebreaking, run-scoring single in the eighth inning.

Chicago starting pitcher Chris Beck allowed one run on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts in five innings.

San Diego third baseman Alex Castellanos left the game in the sixth inning after it appeared he was hit in the groin area on a hard-hit ground ball. He started a 5-4-3 double play though he fell to the ground and was attended to.

Castellanos was replaced defensively by Alberto Gonzalez.

Conor Gillaspie, who looks to be the favorite at third base for the White Sox, had two hits.

Trailing, 3-1, the Padres got a run back in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly to deep center field by Austin Hedges. With one out in the ninth, Ryan Jackson singled home the game-tying run.

Up next: The Padres face the Rangers at 1:05 p.m. PT on Sunday in Surprise. Josh Johnson was scheduled to make that start but the team said Saturday that he'll miss, at the minimum, four to five weeks with a flexor pronator strain in his right forearm. Matt Wisler, who along with Donn Roach and Robbie Erlin is a candidate to replace Johnson in the rotation, gets the start. Wisler, considered one of the top prospects in the system, has a 3.52 ERA over four appearances and 7 2/3 innings this spring.
