Petco Park's Park at the Park to show 2014 FIFA World Cup matches Monday and Tuesday

Park at the Park will be open to the public free of charge to watch World Cup matches Monday and Tuesday

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres and Mayor Kevin Faulconer today announced that Petco Park's Park at the Park will host a public viewing area for the 2014 FIFA World Cup matches taking place on Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17.

"I'm proud that the Padres and the city were able to work together so San Diegans can enjoy the excitement of the World Cup free of charge at the world-class home of the Padres," said Mayor Faulconer. "That's a reason to celebrate."

On Monday, Team USA will take on Team Ghana for a match starting at 3:00 p.m. PT, in Team USA's first match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The match will be shown on the new video board at the Park at the Park area of Petco Park. Tuesday's match between Team Mexico and Team Brazil will also be shown at the Park at the Park area beginning at 12:00 p.m. PT. The Park at the Park will be open to the public, free of charge, and select concessions will be available for purchase during both matches.

"We are happy to be able to partner with the mayor's office to provide a space where San Diegans can gather together to watch the World Cup," said Padres President and CEO Mike Dee. "This is another example of how this facility can be more than just a ballpark for our community."

This season the Padres added a new LED video display that was designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics Inc. The video display is located directly behind the batter's eye at Petco Park in the Park at the Park area. The display measures approximately 17 feet high by 29 feet wide, providing crisp, clear imagery.

Park at the Park will be open both days during normal hours from sunrise to sunset. Free parking will be provided in the Tailgate lot located along Imperial Ave.
