Goldy among D-backs seeking ASG support

Shortstop Owings also 4th at position in latest NL ballot update

May 30th, 2017

PITTSBURGH -- If the season ended Tuesday, the D-backs would be in the playoffs. If voting for the 2017 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard ended Tuesday, however, the D-backs would not have a player in the starting lineup.
But voting still has almost a month to go, so D-backs fans still have a chance to flip the script.
Only two D-backs players rank among the top five at their positions in the first National League Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot update -- first baseman and shortstop Chris Owings.
Cast your Esurance All-Star ballot for Goldy, Owings and other #ASGWorthy players
Goldschmidt is fourth among NL first basemen with 205,828 votes, behind the Cubs' (452,620), the Nationals' (359,055) and the Braves' Freddie Freeman (286,389).
Owings is also fourth among NL shortstops with 219,287 votes, behind the Dodgers'  (399,347), the Cubs'  (379,640) and the Reds' Zack Cozart (264,516).
"I think the fact that Goldy's fourth and C.O. is fourth is startling," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "I think within our clubhouse we know how valuable they are and I know the rest of the league recognizes how valuable they are. I just wish they get that recognition from the fans and hopefully they will. So fans, get out there and vote. All of Arizona, please get out there and vote for our guys."
Goldschmidt has appeared in the past four All-Star Games, and he started in 2014 and '15. Owings has never been selected for the All-Star Game.
