PHILADELPHIA -- The spotlight will shine upon the Philadelphia Stars in a new documentary.
"They Said We Couldn't Play: An Oral History of the Philadelphia Stars" debuts at 8 p.m. ET Thursday on CSN. The 90-minute program digs into the story of "prejudice, comradeship, injustice, triumph and their pure love of the game."
Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard narrates the film.
"The legacy of the Philadelphia Stars Negro League baseball team is one that should be passed on from generation to generation," Phillies chairman David Montgomery said in a statement. "This new documentary captures an important era in baseball history. The spirit and tenacity that is the Philadelphia Stars is indisputable, and we are honored to have the opportunity to share their story."

Immediately following the documentary, CSN will broadcast "Never Forgotten -- The Legacy of the Stars," which commemorates the passing of the last living member of the Philadelphia Stars, Mahlon Duckett. It also chronicles the Phillies' efforts to restore baseball in inner-city Philadelphia.
