LOS ANGELES -- Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola will not rejoin the Phillies rotation on Monday at Wrigley Field.
Nola, who is on the 10-day disabled list with a strained lower back, threw a bullpen session Friday at Dodger Stadium. His back reportedly felt fine during the two-inning simulation, but afterward Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said Nola complained of the same symptoms that put him on the DL.
Is it a setback?
"If you want to call it that," Mackanin said. "We're being cautious with him this early in the season."
Nola had been eligible to be activated Monday. Rookie right-hander Nick Pivetta could make more than one start as a result. Pivetta is scheduled to make his big league debut Sunday afternoon against the Dodgers.
Mackanin said Nola will be re-evaluated to see when he might throw his next bullpen session.
"He's improving, but he's not 100 percent," Mackanin said. "There's something bugging him. We're just going to take it day to day."
