Phillies Announce 2014 Player Development Staff

The Phillies have finalized their player development staff for the 2014 season, Joe Jordan, director, player development, announced today.

At triple-A Lehigh Valley, Dave Brundage, Sal Rende and Ray Burris all return as manager, coach and pitching coach, respectively. Mickey Morandini has joined the staff as a second coach. Brundage and Burris will be back for their second seasons with the affiliate while 2014 will be Rende's 11th year with the Phillies organization and eighth overall at his current position. Morandini spent the last three seasons as a manager at the single-A level.

Dusty Wathan is back for his seventh season with the Phillies and third straight as double-A Reading's manager. Dave Lundquist returns for his second year at Reading as pitching coach while former Phillie Rob Ducey has joined the organization as a coach for the team.

Ramon Henderson returns to the managerial ranks with single-A Clearwater. Henderson last served as a minor league manager in 1996 with the Phillies' single-A affiliate in Martinsville, Va. His staff will be rounded out with Frank Cacciatore and Bob Milacki as coach and pitching coach, respectively. 

2014 will also see Greg Legg's return to managing. Legg will helm single-A Lakewood - a team he previously led in 2001 - his first managerial assignment since 2007 with single-A Williamsport. His coaching staff will consist of Lino Connell and Les Lancaster (pitching), both of whom were with Williamsport last season.

At Williamsport, Nelson Prada is back for his second year as manager with newcomer Shawn Williams as the coach and Aaron Fultz as pitching coach. Williams is the son of former Phillies coach and major league manager Jimy Williams.

The rookie-level Gulf Coast Phillies staff will return intact next season with the exception of Henderson. Manager Roly deArmas, along with coaches Rafael DeLima and Steve Schrenk (pitching), will spend their second consecutive season together.

The coordinator staff has had some changes since last year. Doug Mansolino has been promoted to field coordinator while Mike Compton, who had previously held that position, has been named senior advisor, player development. Carlos Arroyo enters his 38th year with the Phillies and first as the pitching coordinator while Chris Truby joins the staff as the infield coordinator after four seasons as a minor league manager for the Phillies. The rest of the coordinator staff remains intact from last year: Andy Abad (outfield/baserunning), Andy Tracy (hitting), and Ernie Whitt (catching). James Ready remains the athletic trainer coordinator while Jason Meredith has been promoted to the position of strength and conditioning coordinator.
