Phils opt not to extend any qualifying offers

PHILADELPHIA -- It should surprise nobody that the Phillies made no qualifying offers Monday to their free agents.

, and certainly would have accepted the one-year, $17.4 million offer. They stand no chance of getting that kind of paycheck on the open market this winter. Hyun Soo Kim is also a free agent, but he was ineligible to receive a qualifying offer because he switched teams midseason.

Qualifying offers explained

The Phillies made a qualifying offer last fall to , who accepted. If Hellickson had declined and signed with another team, Philadelphia would have received Draft pick compensation.

and Jesen Therrien also became free agents Monday when the Phillies outrighted them to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. They were among a group of five players reinstated from the 60-day disabled list. Therrien had Tommy John surgery in September. Florimon suffered an ankle injury in September and missed the rest of the season.

Right-handers Zach Eflin, and Vince Velasquez also were reinstated from the 60-day DL. They are expected to compete for rotations jobs in Spring Training.
