Phillies lose reliever Savery to A's off waivers
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Left-hander Joe Savery was claimed on outright waivers Monday by the A's.
The Phillies designated him for assignment Sunday to make room on the 40-man roster for A.J. Burnett.
The Phillies selected Savery in the first round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. He went a combined 3-2 with a 4.15 ERA in 41 appearances over the past three seasons.
Savery had little chance to make the team with left-handers Antonio Bastardo and Jake Diekman near locks to make the Phillies bullpen. Left-hander Jeremy Horst also had moved ahead of him on the depth chart.
