Players of the Week
Player - OF , Lehigh Valley… The 23-year-old Quinn batted .409 (9-22) with two doubles, a triple, two RBI, five walks, a team-high six runs scored and two stolen bases in two attempts. He hit safely in five of his six games and reached base in more than half of his plate appearances, posting a .519 on-base percentage. Quinn was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the June 2011 draft.
Pitcher - LHP Ranger Suarez, Lakewood… Suarez, 21, made one start for the BlueClaws, holding Delmarva to just two hits in 7.0 shutout innings with no walks and nine strikeouts. Suarez is riding a 21.1-inning scoreless streak, having not allowed a run since the first inning of his first start of the year. He has 19 strikeouts in his last two starts, compared to just one walk. The Venezuela native ranks third in the South Atlantic League with a 0.81 ERA and is tied for fourth in opponents' batting average (.162). He was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on April 1, 2012.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…12-11, 4th place… Lehigh Valley went 3-3 last week, going 2-1 in their series at Columbus and 1-2 in their series at Toledo. Last week also brought the third postponement already this season for the IronPigs.
Top hitting performers - OF Roman Quinn went 9-for-22 (.409) with two doubles, a triple, two RBI, five walks and two stolen bases. He was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week… 1B Rhys Hoskins batted .375 (9-24) over six games with two doubles, two home runs, five RBI, two walks and four runs scored. He is leading the International League in homers (6) and slugging percentage (.636)… OF Cameron Perkins posted a .429 on-base percentage after walking five times and going 6-for-21 at the plate (.286). He doubled twice and drove in a run.
Top pitching performers - RHP made one start, holding Toledo to one run in 6.1 innings with just three hits allowed and five strikeouts. He has allowed two total earned runs in his last three starts… RHP surrendered two earned runs in 5.0 innings of work in his only start last week, striking out five.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…11-8, 2nd place… The Fightin Phils won each of their first four games of the week, outscoring their opponents 29-15 in those four contests. They finished 4-1, winning a series each against Harrisburg and Portland.
Top hitting performers - OF Andrew Pullin collected two more multi-hit games, bringing his season total up to 11. He had two doubles, two homers and six RBI in five games last week… OF Jiandido Tromp collected five hits in 13 at-bats (.385), including his second home run of the season… CF Carlos Tocci batted .350 (7-20) with a triple, two RBI, a walk and three runs scored.
Top pitching performers - LHP Brandon Leibrandt struck out seven batters in 6.0 innings of one-run ball on April 24. He is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA through three starts… RHP Jesen Therrien collected two saves in two opportunities, combining to throw 3.0 scoreless innings with one hit, one walk and five strikeouts… RHP Miguel Nunez appeared in three games in relief, earning a save and allowing just one baserunner in 2.2 innings.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…16-8, 1st place… Clearwater is now tied for the most wins among any minor league team and has the best record in the Florida State League after going 4-2 in their final six games of April. Their 2.43 team ERA ranks first in the league while their .737 OPS ranks third.
Top hitting performers - OF Herlis Rodriguez batted .333 (8-24) with two doubles, a home run, four RBI, four runs and two stolen bases in two attempts… 1B/3B Damek Tomscha batted .478 (11-23), stringing together four straight multi-hit games from April 25 to April 28. He also drove in a team-high seven runs and stole a base… C Deivi Grullon was 6-for-19 (.316) with a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored.
Top pitching performers -RHP Franklyn Kilome allowed one run in 7.0 innings during his only start of the week. He did not walk a batter and struck out five… RHP Seranthony Dominguez lowered his ERA to 0.95 (2 ER, 19.0 IP) after a 6.0-inning performance with just one run allowed on four hits… LHP Cole Irvin held St. Lucie to one run in 6.0 innings and did not walk a batter. He has allowed one earned run or none in all four of his starts… LHP Austin Davis pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief on April 25, and then 2.1 innings of relief with one run and five strikeouts on April 29.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…13-12, 2nd place… The BlueClaws dropped four of five games to start the week, but then rebounded to win their final two, which included the team's fourth shutout of the year. They will start May with a seven-game road trip to Charleston and Columbia.
Top hitting performers - INF Daniel Brito batted .286 (8-28) with a double and three of the team's five stolen bases (3-3 in SB attempts). His 32 hits lead the South Atlantic League… CF Mickey Moniak drove in two runs and scored three more, batting .250 (6-24) over seven games.
Top pitching performers - LHP Ranger Suarez was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week after tossing 7.0 shutout innings with two hits, no walks and nine strikeouts… LHP JoJo Romero surrendered two runs (1 ER) on just two hits in 6.0 innings of work on April 26… RHP Sixto Sanchez did not allow a run in 5.0 innings in his only start of the week. He allowed two hits, no walks and struck out four batters… RHP Harold Arauz tossed 8.0 scoreless innings of relief over two games, combining to allow three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
