Phillies Minor League review for July 3-9

Players of the Week
Player - OF Jhailyn Ortiz, Williamsport… The 18-year-old Ortiz batted .423 (11-26) with three doubles, a home run, seven RBI, three walks, two stolen bases and a 1.170 OPS in seven games. He had three consecutive multi-hit games from July 6-8. Ortiz is batting .291 (16-55) with three homers, 12 RBI, a .421 on-base percentage and a .537 slugging percentage so far this season. He was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on July 9, 2015.
Pitcher - LHP Kyle Young, Williamsport… Young, 19, made one start for Williamsport, tossing 5.0 scoreless, one-hit innings while walking none and striking out 11. He retired the last eight batters he faced by strikeout. The 6-foot-10 southpaw has made four starts, three of which have been scoreless. He has a 1.47 ERA (3 ER, 18.1 IP) and has struck out 26 batters to just five walks. Young was selected by the Phillies in the 22nd round of the June 2016 draft.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…55-35, 2nd place… Lehigh Valley went 3-4, dropping a series with Syracuse and winning one over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as they head into the All-Star break this week. Two of their five All-Stars, Rhys Hoskins and Scott Kingery, played for the U.S. Team in the All-Star Futures Game Sunday afternoon.
Top hitting performers - OF batted .320 (8-25) with three home runs, five RBI and four walks. He recorded his second multi-homer game of the season on July 7… 2B Scott Kingery was 7-for-21 (.333) with two doubles, two walks, two stolen bases and three runs scored. He played for the U.S. Team in the All-Star Futures game at Marlins Park on Sunday.
Top pitching performers - LHP Brandon Leibrandt made one start, allowing just one run on one hit in 6.0 innings of work with six strikeouts… RHP tossed 7.0 shutout innings, lowering his league-leading ERA to 1.96… In three scoreless games in relief, RHP Jesen Therrien did not allow a run and struck out six in 5.0 innings.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…51-36, 2nd place… After finishing out a sweep of Richmond, the Fightins were swept by Trenton and lost three of four to Portland as they finished the week 2-6.
Top hitting performers - OF Jiandido Tromp recorded three multi-hit games, batting .429 (12-28) with a pair of doubles, a triple, two RBI and three walks… OF Carlos Tocci posted a .455 on-base percentage, batting .379 (11-29) with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and four walks.
Top pitching performers - LHP Cole Irvin made two starts, going 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA (5 ER, 15.0 IP). He threw a career-high 8.0 innings in his last start on July 8.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…8-8, T-3rd place, 46-40 overall… Clearwater went 3-4 last week, with two of their three wins coming via shutout. The Threshers have 10 shutout victories this season, most in the Florida State League.
Top hitting performers - OF Cornelius Randolph had nine hits in 23 at-bats (.391) with three doubles, a home run, three RBI, eight walks and a .548 on-base percentage… C Deivi Grullon hit safely in four of his five games, batting .300 (6-20) with two doubles, a homer and two RBI.
Top pitching performers -RHP Jose Taveras struck out 15 batters in 14.0 innings over two starts, posting a 2.57 ERA (4 ER)… LHP JoJo Romero allowed just one hit in 6.0 shutout innings, striking out nine batters… LHP Tyler Gilbert struck out nine and walked none in 4.2 scoreless innings of relief over two games.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…8-10, T-4th place, 48-40 overall… The BlueClaws won a series over Delmarva and took two of the first three games of a four-game set with Greensboro, finishing the week with a 4-3 record.   
Top hitting performers - 1B Darick Hall homered three times and drove in seven runs during the week. His 17 home runs are most in the South Atlantic League… 2B Daniel Brito batted .333 (7-21) with two doubles, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
Top pitching performers - RHP Adonis Medina struck out nine batters in 6.0 innings in his lone start of the week, allowing just one run… LHP Nick Fanti made two starts, combining to allow four runs in 11.1 innings with no walks and 13 strikeouts… LHP Bailey Falter allowed one run in 6.0 innings, striking out six.
Williamsport Crosscutters - New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…11-9, T-2nd place… Williamsport went 5-2 last week, ending it with a three-game sweep over Mahoning Valley. The Crosscutters lead the league with a .270 batting average, 12 points higher than the next-closest club.
Top hitting performers - OF Jhailyn Ortiz batted .423 (11-26) with three doubles, a home run, seven RBI, three walks and two stolen bases. He was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week… OF Adam Haseley was 11-for-27 (.407) with a double, homer, three RBI, four walks and two stolen bases. He is batting .395 in his first 10 games with Williamsport… OF Josh Stephen hit safely in all six of his games, batting .381 (8-21) with four doubles, a home run, four RBI and two walks… SS Nick Maton batted .348 (8-23) with a double, two RBI and three walks. He collected multiple hits in three of his last four games of the week.
Top pitching performers - LHP Kyle Young did not allow a run and yielded just one hit in a 5.0-inning start. He walked none and struck out 11, including each of the last eight batters he faced as he earned Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week honors… RHP Gustavo Armas earned his first save of the season with a 4.0-inning, scoreless relief appearance with eight strikeouts on July 8… RHP Connor Seabold tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.
Gulf Coast League Phillies - Gulf Coast League Northwest Division…7-4, 2nd place… The GCL Phillies played only five games, winning each of their last four as they finished the week 4-1. They have posted a 3.30 ERA thus far in the young season.
Top hitting performers - OF Simon Muzziotti was 6-for-8 (.333) with two triples and four RBI… SS Jonathan Guzman hit safely in all four games, batting .333 (6-18) with a double, two RBI, a walk and two stolen bases.
Top pitching performers -LHP Manuel Silva allowed two runs in 5.0 innings in his lone start, walking one batter and striking out five… LHP Jhordany Mezquita did not allow a run or hit in 2.0 innings during his first professional appearance.
