Phillies Minor League review for June 5-11

Players of the Week
Player - C Edgar Cabral, Lakewood… The 21-year-old Cabral batted .381 (8-21) with three doubles, two RBI, three walks, two runs scored and a .440 on-base percentage in five games. He has now hit safely in each of his last seven games and has raised his batting average 107 points since April 30. Cabral was selected by the Phillies in the 11th round of the June 2015 draft.
Pitcher - LHP Ranger Suarez, Lakewood… Suarez, 21, made one start for Lakewood, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings and allowing two hits and a walk while striking out nine batters. It was his fourth start this season with nine or more strikeouts. The southpaw has held his opponents scoreless in five of his 10 starts and has allowed two or fewer hits in five of them as well. He ranks third in the South Atlantic League in ERA (1.72) and lowest opponents' batting average (.185) and is tied for fourth in WHIP (0.95). Suarez was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on April 1, 2012.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…42-21, 1st place… The IronPigs swept a three-game series with Buffalo, outscoring the Bisons, 20-5, then split a four-game set with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Lehigh Valley's 42 wins are the most among any minor league team.
Top hitting performers - 3B batted .455 (10-22) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored. He had a season-high four hits on June 5… OF hit two triples, two home runs, drove in five runs and scored six more while batting .296 (8-27). He is tied for third in the league with 13 home runs… OF hit safely in all seven of his games last week, batting .370 (10-27) with a double, a home run and four RBI. His 14 homers are tied for the league lead with teammate Rhys Hoskins… OF CameronPerkins was 12-for-27 (.444) with two doubles, one RBI, three walks and a stolen base.
Top pitching performers - RHP started two games, walking just one batter and striking out 12 while allowing four runs (3 ER) in 13.1 innings of work. Eshelman has a 1.56 ERA in seven starts with Lehigh Valley, which is the second-lowest ERA in the International League… RHP tossed 5.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits while striking out eight batters… RHP made one start, holding Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to one run in 6.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…34-25, 3rd place… After dropping their first game of the week, Reading embarked on a five-game winning streak, during which they allowed only five total runs and recorded two shutouts. The Fightins have posted a 2.86 ERA in June, best among any team in the Eastern League.
Top hitting performers - 3B Mitch Walding tripled, clubbed three home runs and drove in six runs in five games, batting .313 (5-16) for the week. Walding has hit eight home runs in his last 11 games… INF/OF Angelo Mora batted .500 (7-14) with a double, home run, two RBI, a stolen base and three multi-hit games.
Top pitching performers - LHP Brandon Leibrandt threw 7.0 scoreless innings, yielding just four hits in his one start… RHP allowed only four baserunners in his 7.0-inning start (2 H, BB, HB) and has now allowed one earned run or none in five of his last seven starts… RHP Mario Sanchez tossed 6.0 shutout innings in his lone start, allowing just three hits and a walk.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…34-29, 1st place… The Threshers went 2-5 last week, finishing off a series split with Charlotte before dropping three of four games against Jupiter. Clearwater has a half-game lead in the division.
Top hitting performers - OF Cord Sandberg was promoted to Clearwater before the week began, and promptly recorded three multi-hit games and batted .353 (6-17) with three doubles and an RBI in five contests… SS Emmanuel Marrero hit safely in all six games he played, batting .316 (6-19) with a double, triple and three RBI.
Top pitching performers -RHP Jose Taveras struck out nine batters in 6.0 innings of one-run ball, walking none and surrendering just three hits. Taveras ranks fourth in the league in ERA (2.17) and WHIP (1.00)… RHP Franklyn Kilome made two starts, combining to post a 0.87 ERA (1 ER, 10.1 IP) with only three hits allowed and eight strikeouts… LHP Cole Irvin did not allow a run in 6.0 innings during his start on June 5. He walked one and struck out seven… RHP surrendered one run on five hits in 7.0 innings of work in his lone start of the week.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…34-29, 4th place… Lakewood posted a 2-5 record last week as they lost a three-game series with Kannapolis and dropped two of the first three games of a four-game set with Hagerstown. The BlueClaws have a 3-7 record so far in June.
Top hitting performers - C Edgar Cabral was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week after batting .381 (8-21) with three doubles, two RBI, three walks and two runs scored… OF David Martinelli clouted a team-high five extra-base hits (3 2B, 3B, HR) and drove in five runs. He finished his week with multiple hits in each of his last three games… 3B Luke Williams had eight hits in 26 at-bats (.308), including two doubles and a home run. He drove in four runs and scored three more.
Top pitching performers - LHP Ranger Suarez struck out nine batters and allowed only two hits over 7.0 shutout innings on June 6. He was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week… RHP Sixto Sanchez allowed only one baserunner in 5.0 scoreless innings of work in his start on June 11… RHP Adonis Medina made one start, striking out nine in 6.0 innings while allowing four runs (3 ER).
