Phillies Minor League review: July 11-17

Players of the Week
Player -- 2B Scott Kingery, Clearwater… The 22-year-old Kingery batted .448 (13-29) with a double, triple, five RBI, a walk, five runs scored, three stolen bases and a 1.003 OPS. He hit safely in all six of his games, recording a career-high four hits on July 16. Kingery leads the Florida State League in hits (104), doubles (28) and runs scored (56), is tied for third in stolen bases (25) and tied for ninth in batting average (.295). Kingery was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the June 2015 draft.
Pitcher -- LHP Elniery Garcia, Clearwater… Garcia, 21, made one start for Clearwater, tossing a career-high 8.0 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed and six strikeouts. He faced the minimum through 6.0 innings and carried a no-hitter into the eighth. The Dominican Republic native has allowed no earned runs in five of his 12 starts, and two or fewer in 10 of 12. He is tied for first in the league in lowest opponents' batting average (.206) and ranks fourth in ERA (2.23). Garcia was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on December 9, 2011.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs -- International League North Division…55-40, 3rd place… Due to the triple-A All-Star Break, the IronPigs played only four games-the final four of seven straight against Buffalo. Lehigh Valley took the four-game series 3-1 and won five of those seven games against the Bisons.
Top hitting performers -- 1B Brock Stassi was 6-for-12 (.500) with three doubles, a home run, four RBI, four walks and a .625 on-base percentage in four games… OF batted .471 (8-17), doubling four times and driving in three runs… SS J.P. Crawford had a double, home run, four RBI, a walk and three runs scored while batting .294 (5-17).
Top pitching performers -- RHP made one start, tossing 7.0 shutout innings with just three hits, one walk allowed and five strikeouts. Thompson has allowed one earned run in his last 31.1 innings (0.29 ERA)… RHP allowed a run on five hits in 7.0 innings pitched during his only start of the week.
Reading Fightin Phils -- Eastern League Eastern Division …65-29, 1st place… The Fightins split four games with Trenton, losing twice by shutout but allowing only three total runs in their two wins. Reading's week was also shortened due to the All-Star Break, with top Fightins performers for the Eastern League All-Stars including 1B Rhys Hoskins (1-3, HR, 3 RBI, R), C (3-3, R), INF (3-5, 2 2B, 2 R) and RHP (1.0 perfect IP, SO).
Top hitting performers -- C Jorge Alfaro batted .286 (4-14) with an RBI and two multi-hit games. He has multiple hits in 24 of his 63 games this season.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Tyler Viza threw a season-high 8.0 innings on July 14, striking out seven while allowing two runs on two hits. He retired 24 of the 26 batters he faced in the game… RHP held Trenton to a run on three hits in 5.0 innings of work on July 16.
Clearwater Threshers -- Florida State League North Division…15-9, 2nd place, 54-38 overall… Clearwater won their first five games of the week and finished 5-1 as they pulled to within a half-game of Dunedin in the division. The Threshers' overall record is the best in the Florida State League.
Top hitting performers -- 2B Scott Kingery had 13 hits in 29 at-bats (.448) and a team-high 16 total bases. He doubled, tripled, drove in five runs, scored five more, walked and stole three bases. He was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week… 3B Mitch Walding hit safely in all six of his games, extending his hitting streak to nine overall. He batted .429 (9-21) with three doubles, five RBI, five walks, a stolen base and a .519 on-base percentage… 1B Kyle Martin doubled twice, drove in five runs and drew two walks while batting .333 (9-27) in six games.
Top pitching performers -- LHP Elniery Garcia was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week after throwing a career-high 8.0 scoreless innings with one hit allowed and six strikeouts on July 13… RHP Shane Watson surrendered one run and scattered six hits in his 6.0-inning start… RHP Drew Anderson struck out five batters in 5.0 innings of one-run ball in his lone start of the week. He did not walk a batter and allowed four hits… RHP appeared in two games in relief, combining to strike out four batters in 3.0 scoreless innings with one hit allowed.
Lakewood BlueClaws -- South Atlantic League Northern Division…12-11, 5th place, 41-51 overall… The Blue Claws won three of their five games last week, which included a shutout of Charleston on July 16. That ended up being their final game of the week as their scheduled game on July 17 was postponed due to rain.
Top hitting performers -- OF Cornelius Randolph hit safely in all five of his games, collecting three hits in two of them. He batted .435 (10-23) with a pair of doubles, two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored… 3B Damek Tomscha batted .381 (8-21) with two doubles, two RBI, two walks and four runs scored… C Deivi Grullon homered three times-all in consecutive games-and drove in six runs while batting .333 (5-15)… OF Zach Coppola batted .350 (7-20) with five walks and a pair of stolen bases.
Top pitching performers -- LHP Tyler Gilbert did not allow a run and walked nobody in 7.0 innings of work on July 16. Gilbert has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 13 of his 16 starts… RHP Seranthony Dominguez pitched 6.0 innings in his only start of the week, surrendering a run on five hits… RHP Franklyn Kilome allowed a run on three hits over 5.0 frames in his start last week. He has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last 12 starts.
Williamsport Crosscutters -- New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…17-13, 2nd place… Williamsport swept a three-game set with Batavia, won two of three from Vermont and took the opener of a series with West Virginia as they finished the week 6-1. The Crosscutters went from one game under .500 to four games above and only three back of first place in the standings.
Top hitting performers -- OF Jesus Alastre collected nine hits in 17 at-bats (.529), drove in five runs and stole a base. He recorded a career-high four hits (4-5) on July 12… OF Juan Luis doubled, tripled, recorded four RBI, walked and stole two bases. He batted .400 (6-15)… CF David Martinelli homered, drove in a team-high six runs, walked three times, stole four bases and batted .333 (9-27).
Top pitching performers -- LHP Cole Irvin appeared in two games, tossing 3.0 perfect frames with three strikeouts on July 11 and then 4.0 scoreless innings on July 17… RHP Grant Dyer struck out seven batters in 5.0 innings over two appearances. He did not allow a baserunner in either contest.
GCL Phillies -- Gulf Coast League, Northwest Division…13-7, 2nd place… The Phillies lost four of their first five games of the week but then swept a home-and-home series with GCL Yankees to finish 3-4. They have the second-best record in the Gulf Coast League
Top hitting performers -- SS Cole Stobbe hit safely in all five of his games, collecting multiple hits in four of them. He batted .476 (10-21) with two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base… 2B Daniel Brito went 8-for-22 (.364) with three RBI and two walks… OF Josh Stephen drove in eight runs, five of which came on July 15. He also tripled, homered and walked three times while batting .333 (7-21)… OF Mickey Moniak batted .292 (7-24) with a triple, four RBI, a walk and three runs.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Luis Carrasco earned wins in each of his two relief appearances, combining to allow two runs in 8.2 innings with 10 strikeouts… RHP Sixto Sanchez allowed an unearned run in 5.0 innings during his only start of the week. He struck out five and walked one… LHP Kyle Young appeared in two games out of the bullpen, combining for 3.0 scoreless innings with one hit allowed.
