Phillies Minor League review: July 18-24

Players of the Week
Player OF Jiandido Tromp, Clearwater… The 22-year-old Tromp batted .471 (8-17) with a double, three home runs, five RBI, two walks, a stolen base and a 1.059 slugging percentage in seven games. He recorded his first multi-home run game of the season and the fifth of his career on July 20 (2-4, 2 solo HR). The Aruba native has 15 home runs between Clearwater and Lakewood this season, good for the fifth-most among all Phillies minor leaguers. Tromp was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on August 8, 2011.
Pitcher - RHP Sixto Sanchez, GCL Phillies… Sanchez, 17, made two starts for the GCL Phillies, combining to throw 9.0 scoreless innings with one hit and one walk allowed and six strikeouts. He tossed 3.0 scoreless, hitless frames on July 18 and followed that with 6.0 innings of shutout, one-hit ball on July 23. Sanchez has allowed zero earned runs in four of his six starts and one earned run or fewer in all of them. The right-hander ranks second in the Gulf Coast League with a 0.67 ERA (2 ER, 27.0 IP), third in WHIP (6 BB, 14 H) and fourth in lowest opponents' batting average (.156). Sanchez was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on February 20, 2015.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…61-41, 2nd place… The IronPigs won six of their seven games, sweeping a three game series with Indianapolis before taking three of four from Louisville. They allowed a total of only seven runs in their six wins, winning twice by shutout. Lehigh Valley is 20 games over .500 for the first time in franchise history.
Top hitting performers - 1B/OF clubbed three home runs and drove in six runs while batting .333 (7-21). He recorded his second multi-home run game of the season on July 24… OF Cam Perkins went 6-for-14 (.429) with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in four games… OF doubled, homered twice, drove in five runs and scored five more.
Top pitching performers - RHP made two starts, going 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA (1 ER, 15.0 IP) and 0.80 WHIP (3 BB, 9 SO). He was named International League Pitcher of the Week… RHP lowered his season ERA to 2.29 after tossing 6.0 scoreless innings on July 20. He has not allowed a run in his last 22.0 innings… RHP posted 0.96 ERA (1 ER, 9.1 IP) in his two starts, striking out 11 batters while walking just two.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division …68-33, 1st place… Reading lost two games of a three-game set with New Hampshire to begin the week, and then split four games with Hartford. Despite their 3-4 record last week, the Fightins still maintain a six-game lead over the second-place Trenton Thunder.
Top hitting performers - OF Andrew Pullin batted .414 (12-29) with a double, two home runs, eight RBI, two walks and seven runs scored in seven games. He has hit safely in 31 of his last 34 games… 1BRhys Hoskins batted .429 (9-21) with a pair of doubles, three home runs, seven RBI, four walks, a stolen base and a .952 slugging percentage. He leads all minor league players with 28 home runs and is tied for first with 90 RBI.
Top pitching performers - LHP Hoby Milner appeared in three games out of the bullpen, striking out three batters in 3.1 scoreless innings… LHP allowed one run on just two hits in 4.1 innings of relief over two games.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…20-11, 2nd place, 59-40 overall… The Threshers went 5-2 last week, and have now won or split all six of their series in the month of July. Clearwater's pitching tossed two shutouts and held opponents to just two runs in each of their other three wins.
Top hitting performers -  OF Jiandido Tromp was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week after batting .471 (8-17) with a double, three home runs, five RBI, two walks and a stolen base in seven games played… C Chace Numata recorded three multi-hit games, batting .421 (8-19) with a double, four RBI, three walks and a stolen base. He is batting an even .300 in 60 games this season… 3B Mitch Walding walked six times and went 8-for-25 (.320) as he posted a .452 on-base percentage in seven games. He also doubled twice and drove in five runs.
Top pitching performers -  RHP John Richy allowed two runs (one earned) in 13.0 innings over two starts last week (0.69 ERA). He surrendered only seven hits in those 13.0 innings… RHP Will Morris tossed a season-high 7.0 innings on July 21, allowing just a run on one hit while striking out five batters… RHP made three relief appearances, earning a save and striking out seven batters over 6.0 scoreless frames… RHP Drew Anderson did not allow a run and struck out six batters in 5.1 innings in his lone start of the week.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…17-13, 3rd place, 46-53 overall… Lakewood began the week with a doubleheader sweep over Charleston, and then won three of their next five games to finish 5-2. Only three teams in the entire South Atlantic League have more wins in the second half than the BlueClaws' 17.
Top hitting performers - SS Grenny Cumana batted .444 (8-18) with a pair of doubles, an RBI, a walk and his third four-hit game of the season… OF Zach Coppola had nine hits in 25 at-bats (.360), doubled twice, drove in three runs, scored seven more, drew six walks and stole three bases… 2B Josh Tobias batted .348 (8-23) with two doubles, three RBI, three walks and five runs scored.
Top pitching performers - RHP Jose Taveras struck out 10 batters in 8.0 innings on July 21, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks. It was the second time in three starts he has tossed 8.0 innings and also his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season… RHP Franklyn Kilome allowed a run and struck out nine over 6.2 innings in his start against Kannapolis. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his last 13 starts… RHP Seranthony Dominguez surrendered only one hit and struck out six in 6.0 shutout innings during his only start of the week.
Williamsport Crosscutters - New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…22-14, 2nd place… Williamsport went 5-1 last week, allowing only eight runs in their five wins. The Crosscutters have won each of their last four series, and have won 11 of their last 13 games.
Top hitting performers - OF Mark Laird batted .440 (11-25) with a .533 on-base percentage in six games. He scored seven runs, drove in two and walked four times… SS Arquimedes Gamboa doubled twice, homered, knocked in five runs, drew two walks and stole a base while batting .381 (8-21).
Top pitching performers -   LHP Bailey Falter made one start against Batavia, striking out 10 batters while walking one and yielding three hits in 6.0 shutout frames… RHP Adonis Medina also tossed 6.0 innings in his only start of the week and surrendered just three hits… LHP JoJo Romero did not allow a run or walk in his 5.0-inning start on July 24… RHP Blake Quinn struck out seven batters in 3.1 scoreless innings of relief on July 23. He has pitched at least 2.0 innings in four of his six relief appearances.
GCL Phillies - Gulf Coast League, Northwest Division…19-7, 2nd place… The Phillies went 6-0 last week, extending their winning streak to eight games. They are first in the Gulf Coast league in hits (245) and on-base percentage (.353), while ranking second in team batting average (.271) and runs (154).
Top hitting performers - OF Jhailyn Ortiz batted .333 (5-15) with two home runs, four RBI, five walks and a stolen base in five games. He is leading the GCL with six home runs… OF Mickey Moniak also batted .333 (6-18), driving in five runs in five games. He doubled, walked, stole two bases and scored five times… OF Malvin Matos recorded three multi-hit games, batting .375 (6-16) with two RBI, five walks and three stolen bases… SS Cole Stobbe collected six hits in 19 at-bats (.316), drove in two runs and walked once in five games.
Top pitching performers - RHP Sixto Sanchez made two starts, combining to pitch 9.0 scoreless innings with one hit and one walk allowed and six strikeouts. He was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week… LHP Nick Fanti struck out a career-high 10 batters over 5.0 scoreless, hitless innings in his one start last week.
